THE GETAWAY (R) What, exactly, possessed Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger to want to star in a virtual scene-for-scene remake of Sam Peckinpah's middling 1972 bank-heist thriller? Freelance criminal Doc McCoy (Baldwin) is sprung from jail by Jack Benyon (James Woods), a wormy Mr. Big who hires him to organize a safecracking. But the operation turns out to be a double cross. Baldwin strikes ''dangerous'' male-model poses, and Basinger is a blank, a movie star manque. The film quickly devolves into a generic chain of robberies, chases, explosions, and showdowns. Like the original Getaway, it's a joyride without the joy. C ( 209, Feb. 11) -OG
