EW's GRADE
B+

Details Rated: PG; Genres: Comedy, Drama; With: Dan Aykroyd, Anna Chlumsky, Jamie Lee Curtis and Austin O'Brien

MY GIRL 2 (Columbia, PG) The moody, death-obsessed shadows that hovered over My Girl have lifted in this affecting, sunny sequel. This time, a 13-year-old Vada (dreamily pretty preteen Anna Chlumsky) finagles permission from her father (Dan Aykroyd again) and now-pregnant stepmother (Jamie Lee Curtis again) to visit Los Angeles to learn about her mother, who died in childbirth. By staying with her uncle (Richard Masur), she-and we-also benefit from the new blood of Christine Ebersole as Masur's spunky girlfriend, and Austin O'Brien as her son and Vada's first boyfriend. There's as much heart and sensitivity in the depiction of prepubescence in My Girl 2 as there is tin and product placement in Blank Check. B+ -LS
