NRBQ Message for the Mess Age (Forward/Rhino) Twenty-six years after its formation as the New Rhythm & Blues Quintet, NRBQ continues to write and play an inventive blend of jazz and rock that borrows from everyone from '60s British ravers to Steely Dan. Stoked with lively harmonies, bopping rhythms, and an often wacky sense of humor, the band's songs swing from pretty love ballads (''A Better Word for Love'') to off-the-wall social satire (''Big Dumb Jukebox''), to the avant-garde (''Girl Scout Cookies''). Fun, fun, fun. A- -Alanna Nash
