Birds do it, bees do it, even, apparently, 39 popes have done it, but for the last 900 of its 2,000 years, the Catholic church has insisted on celibacy for its clergy. In Priests of Passion, former priest David Rice makes a plea for the repeal of this stricture, visiting others like himself who speak about their tormented decisions to relinquish their vows and marry. This British video intercuts these testimonies with subtly damning shots of Pope John Paul II addressing the multitudes over a loudspeaker. It's a provocative tale, yet also a conservative one, sticking to priests who choose monogamy with women.
