Lead Performance: Rob Wasserman; Genres: Instrumental, Jazz

Rob Wasserman Trios (MCA/GRP) This album's concept is summed up in its deceptively simple title. With bassist Wasserman along for the ride, the trios range from the shameless verbal gymnastics of Elvis Costello with guitarist Marc Ribot to the cheeky, ragged glory of Bob Weir and Neil Young. There are historic moments: the first duet of Brian Wilson and his daughter Carnie, and the final recorded performance of late bluesman Willie Dixon. Even if the pastiche doesn't quite transcend the sum of its parts, Trios boasts great intentions and sturdy lessons in genre-busting. B -Josef Woodard
