Led by the irrepressible Danny Shirley, Confederate Railroad follows its platinum debut with Notorious, another album of Dixie-fried satire and dead-serious takes on life and love. Best of the bunch: ''Elvis and Andy'' (a Southerner judges a Northern girlfriend by how much she digs Messrs. Presley and Griffith) and ''Notorious,'' a gritty slice of film noir unlike anything else on country radio. B+
