Dueting: Two years ago, Tammy Wynette paired up with industrial dance band the KLF, inspiring her label, Epic, to coordinate a duets album, set for early summer. Among Wynette's warbling buddies are Sting (on ''Every Breath You Take''), Elton John, and Lyle Lovett.
Recording: Remember the Psychedelic Furs? Richard and Tim Butler, the brothers behind the early-'80s band, are laying down tracks for a new band. Although produced by Dave Jerden (Alice in Chains), it won't boast a grunge sound. ''I'm not that kind of person,'' says Richard.
Experimenting: Dweezil Zappa has written a 75-minute tune called ''What The Hell Was I Thinking?'' for a one-song album, Extravaganza. The equally bloated band includes 35 guitarists. Dad would be proud.
