Critics tend to write off the Byrds' post-'68 work as a misbegotten dilution of their vision. That's bull. Roger McGuinn was attempting to lead his flock beyond jingle-jangle land, and if the flights weren't always smooth, they were occasionally breathtaking. Byrdmaniacs will appreciate (Untitled)/(Unissued)'s unreleased studio work and Live at the Filmore February 1969, while casual fans can delight in discovering gems like ''Pale Blue'' and ''Tiffany Queen'' amid failed experiments Byrdmaniax and Farther Along.
