On his aptly titled 19th album, Zero Tolerance for Silence, guitarist Pat Metheny gets back to basics. After mastering everything from fusion to mass-scale composition, he returns to the bare bones of improv. One 18- minute stretch in particular recalls lost time at an acid-drenched Dead show. Essentially 40 minutes of screeching guitar solos, this album rocks, but its uniformity makes it less fun than his others. B-
