The Walter Chronicles

Q&A with Walter Cronkite -- We discuss the journalist's new role as the voice of Captain New Eyes in ''We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story''

For years, Walter Cronkite's name has been synonymous with serious, no- nonsense journalism. But the 77-year-old former CBS anchorman recently took a comic turn as the voice of the elderly inventor Captain New Eyes in We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story.

Q: Is the character you play anything like yourself? A: I gather he's not too far from the real me (Cronkite hasn't seen the movie yet). The cartoon character must be recognizable my 5-year-old grandchild screamed, ''There's Granddad!'' when he watched it.

Q: When you were a kid, were you fascinated by dinosaurs? A: No, I don't think my generation got into this dinosaur thing. (But) I've got a 12-year-old grandson who, when he was 3 years old, before he could say many other words, could name the different kinds of dinosaurs.

Q: Will you watch this movie on video with your grandchildren? A: That would be fun, although a couple of them are in Texas. But I imagine they'd like to see it again-I hope they would.
