Melding the wounded soul of Bobby Womack with the polyrhythms of a Jay-Z rhyme, R&B vet Gerald Levert spins compelling tales of love new, betrayed (a scorching duet with Kelly Price), enduring, and out of reach on his fetching fourth solo CD, G. As with much classic soul, his lyrics are often kitschy. But what he lacks in subtlety, he makes up for in heart. B+
