Live at the Acropolis (1994)

EW's GRADE
D

Details Lead Performance: Yanni; Genre: Instrumental

On his first live album, Live at the Acropolis, recorded last fall at the equally rigid Greek monument, Yanni demonstrates conclusively that he is pop's most bargain-conscious musician. No one else so skillfully condenses decades of vacuous instrumentals into a gloppy stew, thereby saving consumers mucho bucks. Doesn't that one orchestral swell recall ''Nights in White Satin''? You bet! Doesn't the opening fanfare sound like the theme to Nightline? Yep! And throughout, isn't it pleasant to hear him not merely tickle the ivories but give them a manicure? Of course! Yanni-more shlock for the buck! D
