Fire, Honey & Angels (2000)

Details Release Date: Apr 07, 2000; Lead Performance: Walt Wilkins Band; Genres: Country, Folk

Walt Wilkins, a Texan and frequent writing partner of the late Walter Hyatt, mines the Lone Star mix of character and color on Fire, Honey & Angels, crafting vivid, mostly acoustic songs in which restlessness and longing permeate the melodies like a fog. While a tribute to a female bartender (''Our Lady of the Avenue'') lifts the mood, Wilkins hits his stride with ''Ruby's 2 Sad Daughters,'' a snapshot of a town so bleak, not even hope sticks around. B+
