Lead Performance: Tito Puente's Golden Latin Jazz All Stars; Genres: Jazz, Latin

This is not Puente's regular Latin Jazz Ensemble, but rather an all-star nonet, each of whose members (including Mongo Santamaria, Dave Valentin, and Hilton Ruiz) is an accomplished leader in his own right. There's a good-time feeling on this casual, amiable, and often rather obvious set. These are guys who can play well without really trying-and for most of the CD, In Session, they seem to be doing just that. B-
