Short-story writer, 'zine editor, pop-culture critic, and, lately, ubiquitous, hip Generation Xer-about-town, Pagan Kennedy is our counselor of camp on a groovy and chockablock tour of '70s schlock. Remember the ''KISS army,'' zodiac everything, Skylab, Pong, Willard the rat, What's Happening!!, Peignot Bold (the '70s bubble typeface), Mexican jumping beans, halter tops, the heyday of Mark Hamill, ''douchebag,'' cigarette commercials, blaxploitation films, T-shirts that said things like ''Foxy,'' and Habitrails? Well, Ken-nedy does-in detail in Platforms: A Microwaved Cultural Chronicle of the 1970s. In hindsight, the '70s have been dismissed as an in-between decade without a single, defining ethos. Clearly, that's what makes those years such fun to recall.
