Fairy tales need gossamer telling. This story of two Irish brothers (Ruaidhri Conroy and Ciaran Fitzgerald) who rescue a magical white horse from a venal businessman and flee to the west coast of Ireland is spun without much wonder. Boyhood fantasy and the world of Irish gypsies could have been the stuff of a rhapsodic flight of fancy, but here they're disappointingly earthbound. Despite some charming moments, Into the West just doesn't go into the west enough.
