Shimmer

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Surgery; Genre: Blues

In the past, these New York creep-rockers have teetered between inspired noise and boring chaos, but on their major-label debut, Shimmer, they manage to impose enough structure on their distorted blues stylings to make it palatable, and then some. Particularly tasty: the slide- guitar-hooked ''Gulf Coast Score'' and the downright poppy ''Didn't I Know You Once?''
