This is a classic recording-Jazz at the Philharmonic: The First Concert-now reissued for the 50th anniversary. Giants Nat ''King'' Cole (piano), Les Paul (guitar), J.J. Johnson (trombone), and Illinois Jacquet (tenor sax) created a supercharged jam-session atmosphere. The high point is ''Blues''-Jacquet surging in the over-the-top style that influenced so many other jazz (and, eventually, R&B and rock) players, with Cole and Paul spurring each other on zestfully.
