Following one bill from crisp ATM birth to tattered demise, the film Twenty Bucks skips along the ocean of humanity with a biting yet gentle honesty. Everyone who comes in contact with the bill has a different take on money: a homeless woman (Linda Hunt), a mortuary assistant who moonlights as a stripper (Melora Walters), a blue-collar lug (Fraser) about to marry rich, a writer (Shue) who gladly waitresses for her art, and two mismatched thieves (Christopher Lloyd and Steve Buscemi). Director Keva Rosenfeld impressively summons up the ghosts of Capra and Sturges while keeping this tale firmly in the here and now. B+
