The rampaging killer in Man's Best Friend, a formulaic creep show, is no kid's doll or unhappy camper, but Max, a genetically augmented dog who can swallow a cat whole, fly over cars, and pee battery acid. John Lafia, who made the similar Child's Play 2, stages the obligatory attack scenes with bloody panache while making sure the dog outacts the awful Ally Sheedy in every scene they share. Nice guy. C
