Summer Dreams, a telepic about the Beach Boys (based on Heroes and Villains, Steven Gaines' depressing biography) was shoddily made to begin with (the actors look nothing like the people they portray, Beach Boys sound-alikes fill the soundtrack), and this tape version — incoherently reedited to add some gratuitous sex scenes — is hardly an improvement. Connoisseurs of fake beards, however, will want to add it to their collections alongside Gettysburg. D-
