Next to imitation, gossiping is the sincerest form of flattery. So on some level, most celebrities enjoy hearing rumors about themselves. What's Danson's favorite rumor? "This is tough," he says, "because the last year hasn't been [about] rumors. It's all been pretty well substantiated."

He does have a favorite headline, though. It appeared not too long ago in a tabloid: DANSON GOES NUTS. "I loved that," he says, both amused and thoughtful. He finishes his coffee and starts to rise. He must leave by 2:30 p.m. so he can spend the afternoon with his daughters. "Yes, indeed, I went nuts this year, you know? But I'd love not to have to explain it." Outside, the clouds are breaking and the temperature is rising. He opens the glass doors and steps out into the sunlight.
