Hearsay

If less of a bold, unified statement than David Sanborn's last two albums, hearsay is another tasty party favor, with fat, soulful grooves, clever turns of chord and melody, and plenty of fire from Sanborn's alto sax. While much of the contemporary-jazz field wallows in fuzak fluff, Sanborn continues to survive in the jazz-pop market with his wits intact. B+
