One of the major shapers of country music in the 1960s, both as a guitarist and a producer, Chet Atkins spent the '80s as a New Agey jazz-fusion artist, heavy on synthesizer ambiance and mellow attitude, light on emotional directness. Here on Read My Licks, with his usual pristine playing, he mixes a little muscle with his mantra, but never gets down and dirty enough to muss his Mr. Nice Guy image. B
