In the headlines last week, a big-news wedding, and news of a big wedding:
*Merger: NBC's newsmagazines Dateline NBC and Now.
*Result: A thrice-weekly program with a host of anchors, including Dateline's Jane Pauley and Stone Phillips.
*Prompted by: NBC News chief Andrew Lack who wanted to create a multinight news show and Katie Couric, who was weary of cohosting both Now and Today.
*Who benefits: The resilient Dateline, which reached a nadir last year when it had to apologize for the use of a rigged GM truck for a story.
*Merger: Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley (or so say the tabs).
*Result: A Jackson-Presley empire worth more than $250 million.
*Prompted by: The mother ship?
*Who benefits: The Church of Scientology, of which Presley is a member and members give a portion of their income to the church. Jackson and Presley's holdings would include the Graceland complex, Jackson's Neverland ranch, royalties from Elvis' image and songs, and Jackson's music company, which owns the rights to some 4,000 songs, including most Beatles tunes.
