On Ricky Lynn Gregg's first album, this turbo-charged Texan served up superficial country-rock that aerobicized the dance-club crowd. But at least he made no musical pretenses. Now on Get a Little Closer, he's tapped into what his label calls ''his traditional country side.'' Gregg may emulate George Jones' clench-jawed intensity (''Rowdy''), but his hero is still Billy Ray Cyrus. Save us. D+
