Some Girls

Details Writer: Kristin McCloy; Genre: Fiction

Some Girls Kristin McCloy (Dutton, $20.95) Girl moves to New York City. Girl meets girl. Despite hometown boyfriend, girl loves girl. If you wonder what it might be like to fall in love with someone of your own sex, Some Girls is your own personal core sample. Somehow Kristin McCloy sidesteps hackneyed ''coming out'' epiphanies; Claire simply likes her neighbor Jade more and more until liking spills into fascination, and fascination into romance. (Isn't that the way love is supposed to go anyway?) You'll have to fight through frequent baroque sentences like ''It's almost morning, she said softly, in the tone of one who has been waiting, of one who has spent years waiting, for the sun to rise again.'' But that's a small price to pay for true love — especially in a city that needs all the true love it can get. B
