Just when we were beginning to despair of the lack of soapy melodramas on the list, here come Danielle Steel-at No. 1-and Barbara Taylor Bradford to the rescue. Bradford's Everything to Gain is the story of a young couple who, according to the press release, ''enjoy a blissful existence shuttling between their Manhattan co-op and their Connecticut country house''-until tragedy strikes. (As it does in Steel's novel.) It's a plot that works: Everything to Gain has about 350,000 copies in print.
