After slipping out of the fusion mainstream for several years, guitar gladiator DiMeola is back, a bit mellower, but still opting for machinistic virtuosity over taste. On Orange and Blue the Brazil-flavored fusion strategies are borrowed directly from Pat Metheny's patois, giving the music — however pleasant — a second-hand quality. At least this time the cover is free of a gratuitous naked lady. B-
