A college kid (Jeremy Davies) spends a summer tending to his bored, depressive mother (Alberta Watson), and what with his sexual frustrations and her seductive behavior, incest enters the picture. David O. Russell's well-composed, remarkably confident first feature is impressive: He gets us to worry about the boy even while we're entertained by his predicament. B+
