Winner Of The Week

John Grisham

The attorney-author sold the film rights to his first novel, A Time to Kill, to New Regency Films for a price in excess of $6 million. That would exceed the record $3.75 million he was paid last fall by Universal for The Chamber. It wasn't just the money that won Grisham over. He had been reluctant to peddle A Time to Kill because he was afraid of what Hollywood might do to his favorite work. But he was pleased with New Regency's adaptation of this summer's Grisham flick, The Client. In fact, A Time to Kill will have the very same director, Joel Schumacher, albeit with a new producer-John Grisham.
