Solomon's Daughter (1994)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Franklin Kiermyer

The church of Coltrane has a street-sharp new priest: Franklin Kiermyer, a charismatic, 38-year-old drummer who is bringing the late saxophone god's style of eruptive jazz rapture into the realm of pure rhythm. Saxist Pharoah Sanders, an original 'Trane disciple, contributes elder cred-not that it's necessary here. Kiermyer plays (and composes) with an almost evangelical belief in jazz as a form of pure inspiration.
