MOTHER'S BOYS Jamie Lee Curtis, Peter Gallagher (1994, Miramax, R, priced for rental) Nothing makes sense in this by-the-numbers knockoff of Fatal Attraction and The Stepfather, least of all how actors as skilled as Curtis, Gallagher, Joanne Whalley-Kilmer, and Vanessa Redgrave-Vanessa Redgrave!-got hoodooed into showing up in the first place. Curtis tries for a change of pace as a demento wayward wife who wants to have her family back the way she left them three years before, but the character as written is a superficial bogeymom. Director Yves Simoneau even botches the pro forma car-hanging-over- the-edge-of-a-precipice climax. About the only fun to be had here is noting how much Curtis' blond hairdo makes her look like her own mom, Janet Leigh. Even so, this psycho's no Psycho. D+ -TB
