Details Lead Performance: They Might Be Giants

Prolific and eclectic, Giants John Flansburgh and John Linnell write hook-laden songs that mix pop, vaudeville, and soul elements. But their work has been marred by a smart-alecky, overly clever precociousness. Recording with a full band helps-the rhythms are looser, the arrangements more muscular-but the lyrics still tend toward undergraduate smarminess.
