Not since Trudy Kockenlocker got pregnant by an anonymous soldier in 1944's The Miracle of Morgan's Creek has such a commotion been created over an unwed mom as in The Snapper. An Irish father (Colm Meaney) and his raucous brood experience some complex and often funny reactions when daughter Sharon (Tina Kellegher) gets ''up the pole.'' Stephen Frears' comedy (written by The Commitments' Roddy Doyle) is a raw and spicy slice of life that is more affecting than it might initially seem.
