Lead Performance: Marcus Roberts; Genre: Jazz
B
Pianist Roberts tackles 10 of Gershwin's most familiar tunes-about half rendered with sufficient imagination, freshness, and flair to justify recording them again. Roberts finds grandeur in ''The Man I Love'' and an intriguing sense of mystery in ''It Ain't Necessarily So,'' but he also rushes through a businesslike ''Nice Work If You Can Get It'' and obscures ''Someone to Watch Over Me'' with gingerbread.
