When a mysterious young woman (Phoebe Cates) appears in 19th-century England, the townspeople can't decide whether to hang her as a vagrant or celebrate her as royalty. Although the plot wears thin, the cast (including Stephen Rea, Kevin Kline, and John Lithgow) makes a strong case for the film's premise: Act like someone special, and people just might believe you are.
