Album Review: 'Brothers' (1994)

EW's GRADE

Details Lead Performance: Santana

Most of this meeting between Carlos Santana, brother Jorge, and nephew Carlos Hernandez is wordless wallpaper: psychedelic blues solos over Caribbean congas, sometimes mellifluous, often mellow. The jazz- noise of ''Transmutation/Industrial'' and the tropical ''Luz Amor y Vida'' both stomp with Hendrix-style heaviness, but the album would have been more fun if Carlos had a relative who could belt out salsa vocals.
