Mark Eitzel's melancholic bile mixed with country whine conjures up visions of Hank Williams channeled through Leonard Cohen. If his wavering voice is sometimes wide of the mark, his songwriting is usually right on target. Like its urban namesake, San Francisco is mysterious, uneven, and pretty self-absorbed.
