Movie Review: 'I Like It Like That' (1994)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Rated: R; Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance; With: Lauren Velez and Jon Seda; Distributor: Columbia Pictures

The debut of a real talent. Writer-director Darnell Martin goes back to the Bronx streets where she grew up to tell the story of Lisette (Lauren Velez) and Chino (Jon Seda), a young black and Latino couple with three kids whose lives are overturned when Chino goes to jail and Lisette dares to take a job. Martin's impressive gifts include a feel for sexiness and a just-do-it-girlfriend practicality in a style all her own. B+
