Three of the most classic grooves here come from 1986's Slippery When Wet, a better album. The post-Slippery attempts at funk all fall flat, but the Catholic cowboy hymns are a hoot, ''I'll Be There for You'' is heroic, and ''Runaway'' has great teenager-in-turmoil lyrics and one heck of a synth hook. There's even a new ballad that deserves to land these hairsprayed desperadoes on the country charts.
