Former John Mellencamp violinist Germano has produced one of the more haunting and enlightened projects of the year. Raw in sound and subject, Germano's follow-up to the brilliant Happiness tackles topics like date rape and domestic abuse in a nonsensational way. Germano's larger subject is alienation, and her sound is a scrappy brand of folk rock, full of deceptive simplicity, disarming musical interludes, and withering wit. A+
