Lisa Germano Geek the Girl (4AD) Former John Mellencamp violinist Germano has produced one of the more haunting and enlightened projects of the year. Raw in sound and subject, Germano's follow-up to the brilliant Happiness tackles topics like date rape and domestic abuse in a nonsensational way. Germano's larger subject is alienation, and her sound is a scrappy brand of folk rock, full of deceptive simplicity, disarming musical interludes, and withering wit. A+ -Josef Woodard
