Details Lead Performance: The Low Road

This five-piece acoustic band from Philadelphia takes a humble approach to its blend of folk, jazz, and blues. But humble doesn't mean dull. Singer/guitarist Mike Brenner's earnest lyrics feature a smart mix of honey and acid, while Rosie McNamara's violin and Palmer Yale's harmonica add a vaguely Irish spice to the mix. It's hard to put a label on the Low Road, which only proves that the best things often come in unmarked packages. B+
