After opening with a tongue-in-cheek tribute to ''My Generation,'' Memphis' Todd Snider shows plenty of lyrical savvy on boozy R&B and Springsteen-style whimsy with Songs for the Daily Planet. When he gears down for a ballad about abused children (''You Think You Know Somebody''), he actually becomes moving — the last thing you'd expect from a wiseass. A-
