This Way Out

EW's GRADE
B

Details Lead Performance: Idaho; Genre: Indie Rock

After releasing the most morose debut of 1993, Idaho trades bleak depression for a gentler melancholia on This Way Out. That may or may not be a good thing — for some, the band's appeal lay in its unrelenting gloom. But songs like ''Sweep'' and ''Forever'' are still so downbeat they'll never be mistaken for Partridge Family outtakes. B
