SMOKES Pumpkin, Butch, and Mia puff on Red Apple cigarettes 5, fake brand with a real surgeon general's warning. Vincent rolls his own with Drum tobacco. Pumpkin, Vincent, and the Wolf light up with snazzy Zippo lighters. Notoriously choosy about his props — including the sunglasses he wore and the Wayne Newton-ish wig he wouldn't — Keitel wanted to use a $1,200 DuPont lighter. "But we couldn't afford it," says one set source, who suggests that not all the paraphernalia was so costly: The ''wizard'' bong at Lance's house came gratis from a staff member.

'N JOLTS Pulp's characters pull no punches. When boxer Butch puts up his dukes, his Ringside gloves 6 make an everlasting impression. Vincent gets his kicks from heroin; Mia, from cocaine. Honey Bunny and the Wolf take another Colombian drug, coffee, with lots of sugar. Only foreigner Fabienne (Maria de Medeiros) drinks it black; her ideal rush comes from a breakfast of blueberry pancakes, maple syrup, and blueberry pie. (Addition reporting by Erin Richter)
