Willie Nelson with strings, to unexpectedly fine effect. These standards, on Healing Hands of Time, are produced with just the sort of countrypolitan schmaltz that Willie rebelled against 25 years ago. But that nasal, dry-as-mesquite voice and skewed timing give the ol' outlaw an irreducible core of individuality he's incapable of making elevator music. B+
