What's that, girl? Lassie has little to do with 1943's bona fide classic Lassie Come Home? It also makes the vintage television show seem a model of stark realism? But isn't the story — a dour urban teenager (Guiry) discovers the pleasures of fresh air, sheep farming, and collie love in the country — a heart tugger? No, it's just corny? At least the dog's okay, right? No? You'd take a mutt any day over this bland purebred pain who's always right and who even emerges from a death-defying trip down a waterfall looking freshly groomed? So what grade do you give it, girl? Look, Mom, she's spelling out a C-.
