Pulp Fiction lensman Andrzej Sekula (making his directorial bow) coats this tale of a vengeful ex-con (Madsen) with a layer of grit, providing even brightly lit scenes with a sense of menace. And though the long-distance pursuit of his imprisoner's son never seems quite worth the effort, at least it allows Madsen, with his let-the-dialogue-ooze manner, to do the voodoo that he do so well.
