In the Works

This week in Hollywood -- "Mulholland Falls,' "Heat," and "Bad With Numbers" made movie news

Plotting: Nick Nolte's on the right side of the law in Mulholland Falls as a member of the Hat Squad, a special force that battles crime in L.A. The drama, with a screenplay cowritten by Pete Dexter (Paris Trout), is set in the '50s, so expect lots of snazzy cars and clothes. Prepping: And on the wrong side of the law, Robert De Niro plays a thief who's pursued by an obsessive cop (Al Pacino) in Heat. Michael Mann's drama starts filming in February; Amy Brenneman (NYPD Blue) may costar as De Niro's moll. Shooting: Tia Carrere (Wayne's World) plus Jason London (Dazed and Confused) equals Bad With Numbers. The comedy stars London as a student and budding cartoonist who meets the tutor of his dreams (Carrere). Bad hopes to do good next summer.
